bread docs: plans that keep up with your money
Basics · Oct 13, 2026 · 5 min read
quick answer: Bread Docs are the plans, checklists and notes you keep inside Breadmaxxer, right next to your money. Ask Bread for a plan and it keeps it as a doc, or write your own. The numbers in a doc stay current:
charts redraw from your own accounts, a linked bill shows
today’s amount and says when it changed, and a checklist line for a bill can
tick itself once the payment shows up.

why keep a plan next to your money
When your pay moves week to week, so does the plan. A payday plan written on Friday can be out of date by Tuesday if a bill went up or a shift got cut, and a notes app has no way of knowing. A Bread Doc lives in the same app as your bills, goals, shifts and accounts, so the parts of it that are numbers can read the real ones.
what people keep in them
- Payday plans: what is due before the next check, what goes to savings, and what is left.
- Checklists: things to pay or do. What you tick settles to the bottom, so what is left stays on top.
- Tables: your cards, bills or options lined up side by side.
- Notes and drafts: what you want to say to a landlord, a manager, or a company that raised your bill.
what a doc does that a note can’t
- charts drawn from your own money
- Add a live chart and it draws from your accounts and the shifts you logged: spending by category, cash on hand, pay month by month, bills before payday, shift pay week by week, card balances, savings toward goals, your plan against what you spent, and net worth. It redraws as your money moves.
- what-ifs
- A what-if chart shows when you can afford something, how your cards pay off, or where your savings or net worth could be ahead. Leave its inputs blank and it works from your usual month, or ask Bread something like “what if I saved $800?”
- links that show today’s figure
- Type @ to link a bill, goal, want or savings pot. The link shows where it stands now, like a bill’s amount and due date or how much of a goal is saved, and if that figure has moved since you wrote the line, the doc says so underneath. Tap it to open the thing itself.
- lines that tick themselves
- A checklist line linked to a bill ticks itself when that bill’s payment shows up, from your bank or a payment you logged.
- reminders from a date
- Give a checklist line a day and it can remind you. Tick the line or delete it and the reminder is cancelled.
- emails and texts, drafted
- Ask for an email or a text from what a section says, plain, professional or friendly. It lands in the doc as a card you can copy or send.
ask bread to work on it
Tap any section to edit it full screen. From there you can ask Bread to tidy it up, make it shorter or simpler, fix the grammar, turn it into a checklist or a table, or add a chart. The change goes straight in, with an undo. It works on the whole doc too: format it, organize it, put a short version at the top or next steps at the end.
Bread holds itself to the same rule in a doc as in chat. If it writes a figure it can’t trace to your records, the doc points it out under that section so you can check it.
taking it with you
Save any doc as a PDF, download it as a Markdown file, or copy the whole thing. Your docs live under Me → documents, and the chat menu lists them too.

frequently asked questions
what are bread docs?
Plans, checklists, tables and notes you keep inside Breadmaxxer. Bread writes one when you ask for a plan, or you can write your own. The figures in them can stay linked to your real bills, goals and accounts.
are my docs private?
Yes. Each doc is encrypted and stored under your account, and nobody else is shown it. A private chat never makes or changes a doc, so nothing from one ends up in your docs.
do bread docs cost money?
Writing and editing your own docs is free, and so are the charts and links in them. Asking Bread to write or rework something uses Bread credits: a chat message is 1, and reworking a section or a whole doc is 1, given back if it fails. Free accounts get 100 credits a month and Pro gets 1,500.
do i need to connect a bank?
No. Docs, checklists, reminders and links to bills, goals and wants you added by hand all work without a bank. Charts and linked figures use whatever the app has, so connecting an account fills in more of them.
can bread change my doc without asking?
When you ask Bread to change a doc, the change goes straight in and you can undo it. The one doc Bread keeps current on its own is the pinned weekly brief, “your money, this week”; anything you add or tick there stays, and a section you edit becomes yours.
can i export a doc?
Yes. Save it as a PDF, download it as a Markdown (.md) file, or copy the whole thing.
